Intern

Hello, I’m Jossalynn. I’m currently a student who is gaining the knowledge and skills to become a professional counselor. I was born and raised in the Salem-area and have no intention of ever leaving this beautiful state. I currently work as a beauty professional and took the joke that I was “like a therapist” too far by deciding to pursue it as a career. I have always been passionate about the mind-body connection and how that influences the way we interact with the world. I spend most of my time outside the counseling world by taking my senior dogs out to the park, making art, and going on small vacations to the coast with my long-term partner and daughter.

Jossalynn's Approach

I utilize a holistic approach that puts the clients beliefs and values first. I aid clients in identifying who or what helped form these beliefs and how it serves them today. By understanding where they come from, I assist clients in aligning their lifestyle with what feels best for themselves. I believe that self-expression can come in many forms including writing, drawing, music, and movement. I encourage clients to find a form of expression that allows them to connect with the deeper parts of themselves and find confidence in their identities. I combine these approaches with cognitive-behavioral strategies to help clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This allows the client to choose which areas they would like to change in order to improve their quality of life.

More About Jossalynn Wright

Experience
I have worked with individuals one-on-one in several settings including caregiving, personal training, and beauty services. I have worked with groups as a sports coach at recreational and competitive levels. I may currently have limited experience as professional counselor, but because of my past experiences I know what it is like to hear the highest highs and lowest lows of someone’s life. I am able to hold space for those that need it and listen intently while tuning in to what that experience means for them. I know how to meet clients where they are and assist them in finding their motivation for change.

Education
I am currently completing my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Eastern Oregon University. I graduated in 2015 from Willamette University with a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science and Psychology.
