Professional Counselor Associate
Abbi's Approach
My approach to counseling in rooted in Interpersonal Neurobiology and the Polyvagal Theory. I emphasize the relationship between body and mind, and the importance of increasing one’s sense of felt safety. I believe that exploring the stories that have been written on one’s nervous system and the impacts of these stories on one’s present day “Neuroception” is integral for gaining self-insight. I also like to support clients by offering practical tools for sending cues of safety to the nervous system.
When working with children under 12, I utilize Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) and/or Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT). These non-directive approaches allow children to process past experiences, learn to express emotions, build self esteem and creativity, develop an earned security in their attachment, and increase their sense of felt safety.
