Kayla Duke

LMFT, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I was born and raised in Oregon and was recently able to purchase a home in Eugene with my best friend and our many pets. I enjoy playing all types of board games, attending live events such as sporting events, comedy shows, and concerts, growing all types of plants, and reading all types of books. I fancy myself to be someone who is casual, humorous, and willing to grow and learn. One of the things I tell every potential client I meet about therapy is that it does not matter if I have been a therapist for 30 years, if I have a specific degree, or what treatment modality I use, what matters most is how well we get along. The therapeutic relationship is the most essential part of therapy and I aim to foster a healthy relationship and environment for all.

Kayla's Approach

My approach is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as the primary tool for conceptualization of how people experience the world around us and interpret it. I operate primarily from a family systems perspective due to my training. I also integrate person-centered therapy, attachment theory, dialectical behavior therapy, somatic therapy, and parent-child interaction therapy. I prefer to use an eclectic assortment of in session exercises, coping skills and techniques, and take home assignments. I always try to assist my clients in connecting them to needed resources as well as assisting in coordinating care between other professionals and sources of support in their life.

More About Kayla Duke

Experience

I have primarily worked with those who struggle with anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder as one of their primary diagnoses. I have experience with folks who have co-occurring disorders, including acute or chronic physical health conditions or substance use disorders that are in remission. My foundational experience as a therapist has been working with kids and teens in all different environments – outpatient services, psychiatric day treatment, residential, and incarcerated. Since moving to Eugene in 2023 I have begun working with adults and couples.

Education

I completed my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy training program at Oregon Institute of Technology in August 2021. I hold a BS in Applied Psychology from Oregon Institute of Technology. I have a certificate in Medical Family Therapy which has given me the tools to offer an integrative, whole-person approach to disease that considers the thoughts, behaviors, and feelings of the patient and important people in their life. Additionally, I have extensive education in addiction studies and drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
